How to fax Italy

Send a fax to Italy in five steps

  1. Get a JamFax account. New here? Get a fax number.
  2. The account owner turns on international faxing in the app under Fax, then International. It is off by default.
  3. On Fax-to-Email, e-Fax or Corporate Fax, add the International add-on ($4.99 a month). Pay as you go does not need it.
  4. Add prepaid credit. Every international page is paid from your credit.
  5. Send as usual and enter the landline number in Italy starting with the country code 39.

Fax number format for Italy

  • From a US fax machine you would dial 011 39 06 xxxx xxxx: 011 to leave the US, 39 for Italy, then the number.
  • In JamFax, enter 39 06 xxxx xxxx: the country code, then the number. When you copy a number written for callers inside Italy, keep the leading 0: unlike most of Europe, Italian landline numbers keep it when dialled from abroad.
  • Mobile numbers start with 3. Only landlines can be faxed.

Italy uses Central European Time (UTC+1, or UTC+2 from late March to late October). It is usually 6 hours ahead of US Eastern time, so a fax sent at 9 a.m. in New York arrives at 3 p.m. in Rome. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the gap is 5 hours, because the US and Europe change their clocks on different dates.

What if my fax to Italy fails?
