Getting started
- Create your account and pick a plan: e-Fax to send and receive, or Fax-to-Email to receive only.
- Search by area code and choose your fax number. For Fax-to-Email, add at least one email address that should get your faxes.
- Pay the first month by card (e-Fax: start a 14-day free trial; your card is charged on day 14 unless you cancel). Your line is set up as soon as the payment goes through, usually within a few minutes. If we can't set it up, the payment is refunded automatically.
Sign in any time at app.jamfax.com. Fax in the menu is where you send faxes and see every fax you have sent and received; Fax lines holds your numbers and their settings.
Sending a fax from your browser
Sending needs an e-Fax line.
- Sign in and open Fax.
- Choose which of your numbers to send from, and type the destination fax number.
- Upload your document as a PDF or TIFF and press Send.
Follow the fax in the inbox on the same Fax page. It shows whether the fax is queued, sending, delivered or failed. If a fax fails (the other machine was busy or didn't answer, for example), you can press Retry to send it again.
You can set the header text printed at the top of each page in your line's settings.
Faxing by email
On an e-Fax line you can fax a document just by emailing it.
Turn it on
Open your line under Fax lines, choose Settings and turn on email sending. If you have more than one line, choose which one is your default sender.
Send
Email your document to the destination fax number at fax.jamfax.com, using digits only. For example, to fax (305) 555-0142, email 13055550142@fax.jamfax.com.
- Send from the email address you use to sign in to JamFax. Mail from any other address is ignored.
- Attach up to 5 PDF or TIFF files, 10 MB each. They are sent as one fax, in the order attached.
- The text of your email is not faxed, and there is no cover page. Put anything you want the recipient to read in the document.
- You can send up to 30 faxes by email an hour. Use the browser for more.
We reply to your email to say the fax was sent, or why it wasn't.
No reply at all?
For your security, we silently ignore email that doesn't come from your account's address or that fails your email provider's sender checks (SPF and DKIM), so nobody can send faxes in your name. Check that you sent from your sign-in address. Gmail, Outlook and most business email pass these checks. If yours doesn't, send from the browser and email us.
Receiving faxes
Every fax sent to your number is kept in the inbox on the Fax page (filter by received), where you can view and download it as a PDF.
To get faxes by email too, add one or more delivery addresses in your line's settings. Each fax arrives as a PDF attachment. A fax larger than 5 MB comes as a secure download link instead, which works for one hour; after that, open the fax in your inbox.
Fax-to-Email lines always email your faxes and keep them in the inbox too.
Use JamFax on your phone or computer
You can add JamFax to your phone's home screen or install it on your computer. It then opens in its own window with the JamFax icon, like any other app. It is the same JamFax you use in the browser, with the same faxes and settings, and it updates itself. There is nothing to download from an app store.
iPhone and iPad
- Open app.jamfax.com in Safari and sign in.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
Android
- Open app.jamfax.com in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the menu (three dots) and choose Install app. On some phones it is called Add to Home screen.
Windows or Mac
- Chrome or Edge: open app.jamfax.com and choose the install icon at the right of the address bar (a screen with a down arrow). You can also open the browser menu and choose Install JamFax (in Edge: Apps, Install this site as an app).
- Safari on a Mac: open app.jamfax.com, then choose File, Add to Dock.
To remove it, delete the icon like any other app: press and hold it on a phone, or right-click it on a computer.
Faxing from Outlook
The JamFax add-in puts a Send as fax button on any email you open in Outlook, so you can fax its PDF or TIFF attachments without downloading them. It works in Outlook for Windows (classic and new), Outlook for Mac and Outlook on the web. It is not available in the Outlook phone apps.
Install it for yourself
- In Outlook, open any email and choose Apps (or Get Add-ins on the ribbon).
- Choose My add-ins, then Add a custom add-in, Add from URL.
- Paste
https://app.jamfax.com/addins/outlook/manifest.jamfax.xml and choose Install.
Install it for your whole company
Your Microsoft 365 administrator can add it for everyone at once: in the Microsoft 365 admin center, open Settings, Integrated apps, Upload custom apps, choose Office Add-in and paste the same address. It can take up to a day to appear for everyone.
Send a fax
- Open an email with a PDF or TIFF attached and choose Send as fax.
- The first time, choose Sign in to JamFax, sign in, then choose Connect this Outlook.
- Tick the attachments to fax, pick your fax line, type the number or pick a fax contact, and add a cover page if you like (PDF only).
- Choose Send fax. The panel shows when it is sending and when it is delivered, and the fax also appears in your JamFax inbox.
The add-in can only see the attachments you tick, and its connection lasts up to 90 days before it asks you to sign in again. To disconnect it, sign in to JamFax, open Fax contacts, choose Mail client add-ins and remove it.
Print to fax from any program
Add JamFax as a printer once. After that, choose File, Print, JamFax in Word, Excel, a PDF reader or your accounting software, and the document arrives in JamFax ready to fax. It uses the printer support already built into Windows 10 and 11 and macOS, so there is no driver to download.
1. Create a printer password
Sign in to JamFax, open Fax contacts, choose Mail client add-ins, then Print from your computer. Choose Create printer password and give it the computer's name. Copy the password; it is shown only once. You need one per computer.
2. Add the printer
- Windows 11: Settings, Bluetooth & devices, Printers & scanners, Add device, Add manually, Select a shared printer by name, then type
https://print.jamfax.com/ipp/print.
- Windows 10: Settings, Devices, Printers & scanners, Add a printer or scanner, The printer that I want isn't listed, Select a shared printer by name, then the same address.
- Mac: open JamFax-Printer.mobileconfig and approve it in System Settings, Privacy & Security, Profiles, then add JamFax under Printers & Scanners. Or add it yourself: Printers & Scanners, Add Printer, the IP tab, address
print.jamfax.com:443 (the :443 matters), protocol IPP, queue ipp/print.
The first time you print, your computer asks you to sign in. Enter the printer password and leave the name your computer fills in (don't change it). Tick "remember" so it does not ask again. If you saved a wrong password, delete the print.jamfax.com entry in Keychain Access (Mac) or Credential Manager (Windows) and print again.
3. Print and send
Print to JamFax. Within a few seconds the document appears under Printed documents on the Fax page, and you get an email with a link. Click Send, choose the fax number and a cover page if you like, and send. A printer cannot ask for a fax number, so this last step always happens in JamFax.
Printed documents you do not send are deleted after 7 days. To stop a computer printing to your account, delete its printer password in JamFax.
Turn on international faxing
Faxing outside the US and Canada is off until the account owner turns it on. Jamaica, the rest of the Caribbean and the US territories count as international.
- Sign in to the app as the account owner and open Fax, then International.
- Turn international faxing on. On Fax-to-Email, e-Fax and Corporate Fax, add the International add-on ($4.99 a month). Pay as you go doesn't need it.
- Make sure you have prepaid credit. International pages are paid from credit at the country's per-page price, shown in the app before you send.
- Send as usual, using the full number with its country code.
A default cap of $25 a day applies to international faxing on each account. Only landlines abroad are supported, not mobile or special-service numbers. Failed international faxes are not charged. See prices by country.
Pages and billing
- Pay as you go is $2.99 a month, number included, plus $0.10 for each page sent or received, taken from prepaid credit (top up $10, $25 or $50; it doesn't expire while your account is open). If credit runs out, sending stops but faxes sent to you are still received and kept. More about credit.
- Fax-to-Email is $5.99 a month and e-Fax is $14.99 a month, number included. No setup fee and no contract. Taxes and fees are extra.
- Corporate Fax is $49.99 a month ($499.90 a year) for 3 departments with a number each, 3,000 pages a month shared across the company and unlimited users. Extra departments are $6.99 a month. Choose it when you sign up; for help setting up departments, email support@jamfax.com. See Pricing.
- Each Fax-to-Email line includes 500 pages a month and each e-Fax line 1,000 pages a month, sent and received counted together. Each page after that is $0.05. (Pay as you go has no included pages.)
- Only pages that go through count. A fax that fails uses no pages, and a retry that succeeds is counted once.
- On Fax-to-Email and e-Fax the allowance is per line. It isn't shared between lines and doesn't carry over to the next month. On Corporate Fax the 3,000 pages are shared by the whole company, and page packs (500 pages $15, 2,000 pages $50) top it up for 12 months.
- You can see how many pages you've used this month on each line, for example "212 of 1,000 pages".
- You pay the first month when you order, then monthly. Or choose Annual and pay for a year up front for the price of 10 months: e-Fax $149.90 a year, Fax-to-Email $59.90 a year. Extra pages are still billed monthly.
If a payment fails
We'll email you. If a bill stays unpaid, sending is paused but you keep receiving faxes. Sending comes back as soon as you pay.
Cancelling
Cancel a line from its settings at any time. It keeps working until the end of the month (or year) you've paid for, and you aren't billed again. Unused months of a yearly plan are not refunded, except that e-Fax has a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first payment: email support@jamfax.com and we refund it in full.
