How to fax the Netherlands

Send a fax to the Netherlands in five steps

  1. Get a JamFax account. New here? Get a fax number.
  2. The account owner turns on international faxing in the app under Fax, then International. It is off by default.
  3. On Fax-to-Email, e-Fax or Corporate Fax, add the International add-on ($4.99 a month). Pay as you go does not need it.
  4. Add prepaid credit. Every international page is paid from your credit.
  5. Send as usual and enter the landline number in the Netherlands starting with the country code 31.

Fax number format for the Netherlands

  • From a US fax machine you would dial 011 31 20 xxx xxxx: 011 to leave the US, 31 for the Netherlands, then the number.
  • In JamFax, enter 31 20 xxx xxxx: the country code, then the number. When you copy a number written for callers inside the Netherlands, drop the leading 0 of the area code (020 becomes 20).
  • Numbers starting 06 are mobiles and cannot be faxed. Only landlines can be faxed.

The example is Amsterdam, area code 020; x marks the local digits.

What time is it in the Netherlands when I fax from the US?

The Netherlands uses Central European Time (UTC+1, or UTC+2 from late March to late October). It is usually 6 hours ahead of US Eastern time, so a fax sent at 9 a.m. in New York arrives at 3 p.m. in Amsterdam. For a few weeks each spring and autumn the gap is 5 hours, because the US and Europe change their clocks on different dates.
